DSS-WuK
General System description
System name: Decision Support System Wald und Klimawandel
Acronym: DSS-WuK
Brief overview
German DSS born with the scope to help the creation of adaptation strategies of the sustainable forest management to the impact of the climate change.
Contents
System origin
- It is being developed by the Forschungszentrum Waldökosysteme of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, the Nordwestdeutsche Forstliche Versuchsanstalt, and the German federal research institutes Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institut.
- It is being developed with the help of stakeholder forums, surveys and interviews.
- It is still in development
Support for specific issues
The DSS-WuK will be able to analyse the consequences of the future climate scenarios for different species in the wind stem breakage hazard, the drought stress, nutrient availability, growth, pest disturbances occurrence, economic availability, and even changes in the rotation.
Data and data models
Typical spatial extent of application
The system enables analyses from national to regional level.
Forest data input
The input data of topography, soil, weather and stocking are the base for the development of the other modules. The user communicates with the system via an interface where he can formulate his queries.
Models
Forest models
Different models are going to be used within the DSS-WuK.
Decision Support
Definition of management interventions
User will be able to change its forest management in order to minimize the risks and losses caused by the impact of the climate change in forests.
Typical temporal scale of application
Strategic level. Future climate scenarios are designed for three 30-year periods from the current date.
Output
Spatial analysis capabilities
It will provide the users with thematic maps of the entire Federal Republic of Germany.
System
System requirements
- It is going to be a web-based tool.
- Three dummy-systems have been developed until the moment.
